SOC 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Symbolic Interactionism
Document Summary
Our creative intelligence allows us to adapt to diverse environments and survive by gaining the necessities for survival through our actions. We create our own social rules through our creative intelligence, which is biologically based. Allows us to organize social relations in various ways. Thus, most sociologists believe that our nature is the base of nurture"s influence. Our main instinct is to learn and adapt. This is why socialization is so important. Some sociologists stop here, don"t see any other influence of genes. Others go further and consider how nature and nurture interact. Nature promotes predispositions, and nurture commonly reinforces the predispositions. Makes them stronger than they would be alone. Educational success offers an example showing how nature & nurture interact and reinforce one another. Students with well developed cognitive skills get special treatment from a young age. These students are commonly the oldest in their class.
