It is fundamental to marxism that there is no moral right to the private ownership of and control of productive resources. Private ownership of the means of production should be abolished because it gives rise to the wage labor relationship, which is inherently unjust, exploitive and alienating: exploitation. Licenses the buying and selling of labor. Extracts more value from the worker"s labor than is paid back to the worker in return of labor ("surplus value ) What matters is that people have the sort of access to the resources that enables them to make whatever decision concerning work, leisure and risk best their goals in life. Most contemporary marxists do not share marx"s optimism concerning abundance, and instead invoke the needs principle as a distributive principle. However, marxists interpret needs in a much more expensive way, it can sometimes be confused as interests : the needs principle requires some guidelines regarding what counts as reasonable needs.
