Document Summary

Forensics evidence often assumed that are reliable, certain and is infallible from human error. However, some forensic science techniques have not been adequately verified by the scientific community or cjs. The us innocence project indicates that many forensic testing methods have been applied with little or no scientific validation and with inadequate assessments of their reliability. Furthermore, they lacked scientifically acceptable standards for quality assurance and quality control before their implementation in cases. Unintended consequences arise from the use of experts and forensic evidence. Studies have shown repeatedly that juries are heavily influenced by forensic evidence and are significantly more likely to find a defendant guilty where scientific evidence is part of the proceedings. For example, jury members are overwhelmingly likely to find the defendant guilty when dna evidence is present, even if that evidence weak or questionable. Other studies have identified how jurors are more likely to be convinced by forensic evidence because of the csi effect .
