There are advantages and disadvantages to living in groups. Goshawk success rate drops from 80% to 6% when attacking flocks with more than 50 birds. As the number of individuals in a group increases, the chance of being the one attacked decreases. Wolves able to take down larger prey. Can get almost 100% of resources in that area rather efficiently. Fly more often and further for the same amount of resources. More diseases in social animals vs solitary animals. Although the optimal group size is 4, a 5th or 6th individual would have a higher net benefit in the group than it would alone. You"ll probably end up with a suboptimal amount of group members if you"re not good at kicking members out. Distribution = the geographic area where individuals of the species are present. Abundance = the number of individuals of a species that are found in a given areas.
