ENERGY 303 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Municipal Solid Waste, Landfill Gas, Sustainable Energy
Document Summary
Probably a bit of a stretch to say wood"s growth has been meteoric. Making electricity from wood: burn the wood and use just like coal, etc. Wood-fired power plant, vermont: they"re not irrelevant but also not big players. Are wood-fired power plants green electricity: some believe it"s cleaner than coal (relatively smaller, some believe that co2 emissions aren"t actually less at all. Wood energy in the home: conventional fireplaces: inefficiency and polluting, wood stoves and modern fireplace inserts: efficient sources of heat. One of the shortcomings in using in your own home: smoke: the byproduct of incomplete burning, causes pollution, represents inefficient combustion, all carbon converted to co2, you get carbon monoxide and smoke when you don"t burn correctly. If you use wood in your home: doing anything that reduces the amount of smoke in your home is good, smoke is bad for your health.
