Document Summary
Allow researchers to get as close as possible to original ideas, events, and empirical research as possible: examples: Diaries- very firsthand interviews- church to accused, torturer to accused letters- two personalized views. Original works of art- shows the abstraction of thoughts, more personal. Photographs speeches- intended only to be read, gets the main point across. Works of literature- like art, very interpretive. Such sources may include creative works, first hand or contemporary accounts of events, and the publication of the results of empirical observations and research. A primary source is an original document containing firsthand information about a topic. Analyze, review, or summarize information in primary sources or other secondary resources: examples: Biographies- about someone else, interviews or reading about that person. Indexes, abstracts, bibliographies (used to locate a secondary source) Usually not based on the author participating themselves, but looking into sources.
