Document Summary

The energy coming off a source of light (radiance) The energy that hits the object (illuminance) The energy that bounces off the object (luminance) The energy that hits the retina (retinal illuminance) The relationship between luminance and illuminance (reflectance) We have 100 rays hitting a cup and there are no photons coming off the cup, reflectance would equal 0% Ranges from 0 to 100% (0 meaning no photons are reflected and 100 being all of the photons bounce off) Illuminance depends on how much light energy is hitting the object. The closer / further away from a light source, the more the illuminance changes - we don"t see the changes though. Whiteness / lightness is related with reflectance. The chalk is always white / the coal is always black (general rule) Reflectance is constant, so the chalk will still look white regardless of how bright / dark of light it is in.
