Plato"s republic tries to define what justice is. Metaphysics is the study of what exists: he says justice is a matter of fact and can be understood through reason. If true, then we need to understand what justice is and how we come to know it. What about numbers: one part of metaphysics is the study of ontology. The appearance/reality distinction: objects may exist in a way other than. There is a reality outside and independent of our perception. they are perceived as being: plato"s metaphysics. The world is constantly changing, but it follows predictable patterns. The forms: the underlying patterns of the universe: all objects emulate the forms, the forms are non-physical ideals, the forms are forever unchanging/permanent, recognizing the forms: All objects that have something in common are following a form. In other words, they all follow the same underlying metaphysical pattern.
