system; may start with candidates, but eventually spreads to entire

• Private sphere: motivation crisis
o People have become disengaged from economics and politics
▪ Many forms: substance abuse (dull pain w/drugs and alcohol),
unemployed no longer looking for work, loss of trust in public officials,
lowered civic engagement
