Attribution theory- we think about the cause of something we observe; that cause influences our attitudes. Fundamental attribution error- we tend to associate other peoples" negative behavior with internal dispositions rather than situational factors. Partisanship- people often form an attachment and identify with a particular party. Partisan motivations- a drive to view your party and its policies/ candidates in a favorable light. Geographic sorting- people move to be where there is more of their party. Central processing- pay close attention to and think about info, only possible with motivation and ability.
