During muscle contraction, actin and myosin slide against each other. The synapse is the junction where a motor neuron meets the muscle fiber. This initiates the generation of the action potential, which depolarizes the muscle membrane. Creatine phosphate metabolism produces energy very quickly, but lasts a very short time (15 seconds) Anaerobic glycolysis, also known as oxidative phosphorylation, produces energy quickly but without oxygen and lasts 30 40 seconds.
