There are two ways to becoming a prince: 1. When private citizens choose a ruler from their fellow citizens. Declines to discuss the first way of becoming a prince in length, saying essentially that it is self explanatory. Example: liverotto da fermo became a military leader, and planned to take over the city with a few other citizens. His uncle planned a lavish banquet for his arrival, and upon their entrance they killed everyone there, including his uncle, and intimidated the rest of the town into letting him be the leader. He was only taken out of power when cesar borgia had him murdered at senigalia. Cruel acts, though evil, may be justified when they are done all at once to establish a prince"s power (but not repeated), and turned to the benefit of its subjects. Cruel acts are done badly when they increase over time.
