Document Summary
The internet is a network of networks, invisible entity that connects your computer to others (phones, tablets, etc. ) The world wide web is one entry point onto the internet. Search engines: use keywords to filter results according to popularity (a crawler is sent across the internet and returns the most relevant results [which are determined by clicks and inbound links]) Blogs (come from the term weblog): came out in the 90s by conservatives who felt the media was too left leaning. Collaborative projects: websites where users can upload content. People can get their start on them. Social networking: a tool that allows you to connect with friends, family, or celebrities. It"s multidirectional you can communicate with senders. You can be exposed to content you wouldn"t be exposed to. Echo chamber - you never get diversified opinions, etc. It enables targeted advertising - when you search something and it pops up as an ad.
