PSYC 233 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Plasma Protein Binding, Bioavailability, Drug Tolerance
Document Summary
The study of medication in treating mental disorders try to understand how exactly a particular medication has an impact on the decrease of symptoms related to mental health issue. Drug body interactions: what the medication does to the body. Second aspect is what the body does to the medication. Since the first part assumes that all the bodies are the same but there are differences. All contributes to what the body does to the medication. Pharmacokinetic: what the body does to medication. Sex of the individual, all of that matters. Pharmacodynamics: what medication does to the body. Binding: protein binding deals with how much of the drug is available to have any kind of impact so you can have a drug in the body but if it does not bind to anything who cares. Half-life: deals with how long a drug will stay in the body and dictates drug intake schedule.
