BIBL 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Christology, Hellenistic Philosophy
Document Summary
Thought to be the most beautiful of the gospels. Tradition says it was written by a doctor (physician), historian, and artist named luke due to the elevated language. Infancy: prologue, preparation for ministry, galilean ministry, travel narrative: to jerusalem, ministry in jerusalem, passion and resurrection, first of 2 parts (luke-acts, genealogy: jesus -> david -> abraham -> adam (emphasize that jesus came for all humanity) Written to theophilus (not specific as to either god lover or imaginary) Jesus blesses his disciples and then ascends to heaven. Today repeated throughout the book: other themes expanded on in acts, city of jerusalem, work of the holy spirit, jesus as a role model. References to jesus showing human emotion are dropped from this gospel. Stories where jesus may have acted violent are omitted. Stories that may show lack of authority or ability are omitted. Jesus is more including and inviting, especially towards outcasts or marginalized people.
