Medieval theatre vs. renaissance (early modern) theatre. There are plays, archaeological records, anti-theatrical tracks etc. First 12 minutes consists a lot of theatre history. 2-3 weeks to get the play up. Hired man: gets played on a per play basis and shakespeare wants to be a shareholder but he has to put in 50 pounds. Comfort is associated with class and your position in theatre: the cheapest seats are at the ground. Shakespeare"s plays are commodities which can be sold. Sides: the amount of lines a character has. Will kemp: known for his comedy, so playwrights can write special scenes for them. 1613: 12 pounds per pay is the rate they asked for. Actors had to know how to read. Adult companies mostly featured adults and sometimes would feature apprentices (normally 4) These apprentices take on female roles and move onto male roles. Boys companies: more elite; threaten the adult companies. Permanent: professionalization of theatre: theatre boom in the 1570s.
