Feminist art art by women artists made consciously in light of feminist art theory since. In 1971, a groundbreaking essay was released: why have there been no great women artists? : analyzed social and economic factors to explain inequality of between women and men. Western art replicates the main ideologies of male bias. Women artists started to express their own experience by: vaginal imaginary, menstrual blood, explicit body. Performativity (butler): a set of poses adopted by women to conform to social expectations of womanhood. Category of the sexes: sexy and sexual differences = masculine and feminine. What is considered masculine and feminine is decided by culture and social context. Gender is constructed on an ongoing fashion through daily practices of social interaction. Make sense of life by sharing and creating: rules and laws, ideologies, philosophies. We make sense through cultural meanings: this makes it intangible.
