It is widely agreed that systems frameworks do not provide intervention methods. In the 1960"s, there was a return to looking at the person and their environment, which created some divide in the field between those adhering to psychological theories and those following systems theories. First wave of systems theories: 1960s: general systems theories: challenges the individualistic focus evident in the professional social work literature of the time. Instead of digging up the past, social workers were encouraged to redirect their attention to focusing on insight into current conflicts, attempts and social and psychological integration, and working on future goals. General systems theory: some of the original terms of general systems theory came from biological terms (which was meant to enhance the applicability of science to the field), however, social workers were alienated by this language. Entropy: the tendency in the universe to move towards disorder.
