Consider why and how the survivor was admitted: voluntary vs involuntary. > voluntary admissions would have a di erent perspective to the psychiatric system than involuntary admissions. The patient"s recovery is dependent on the doctor"s discretion. Treatment usually depends on standardized instruments like drugs and medicine. Prescription (drug, strength, frequency) is decided by the doctor. Recovery is achieved when the patient complies with social order. Ex: a depressed patient will have recovered" after taking anti-depressants because it brings them back to a normal" way of living. Discomfort and side e ects do not matter if the individual ts in with society again, they are healed and will need to deal with these other feelings on their own. A survivor might consider a successful recovery as nding a way to live with the condition without having to feel like they"re sick or like they"ve done something wrong. Recovery process should be holistic, focusing on the person and their symptoms.
