Theme: eating disorders are multi-determined disorders - have a wide range of causes/factors. Usually emphasizing the psychological and biological aspects more than other aspects. Society has accepted a thin body ideal, so many women suffer from eating disorders in order to try to achieve this ideal which in most cases, is an impossible ideal. Media emphasizing these ideals of beauty everywhere- unavoidable. Looking at the individual psychopathology (having issues/problems with psychological functioning) Concerns with our shape influenced by our culture, which is also triggered by existing psychopathologies. Dance and modeling students being affected by anorexia because they feel more pressure on achieving the ideal body type. Women needing to maintain a certain appearance in order to be accepted by society. Striving to please others; trying to meet all these different demands and duties that are expected of them. Heterosexual women often more affected by anorexia and these ideals than a lesbian woman.
