SOSC 3543 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Gender Mainstreaming, Mull, Sexual Orientation
Document Summary
Our readings this week were about gender mainstreaming. The first reading focused on the progress of gender mainstreaming in international development organizations in the united kingdom, while the second reading focused on one particular gender mainstreaming project in bolivia. While both approaches to gender mainstreaming made progress in terms of gender equality and women"s rights, it was interesting to compare the different ways of putting gender mainstreaming into action and how the outcomes differed. In the first reading, gender mainstreaming in corporations started off as participatory and was often promoted by volunteers. As corporations began to become more familiar with the concept, it became more imbedded in their policies and became a priority in the work of the corporations. While progress was made in the way of gender equality and women"s rights becoming priorities for the organizations, one of the weaknesses identified was putting these priorities and commitments into practice.
