When development succeeds, countries may not face con ict. When development fails, there is more con ict. However, con ict may lead to development - con ict and revolution may pause development temporarily, but may help development - lead to change in structure and allow change and development. Eg. in a corrupt regime, resolution may lead to change in regime and to a more accountable and transparent government. Calvert: revolution is simply a form of governmental change through violence - this de nition does not highlight the political social dimension of revolutions. Huntington: a rapid, fundamental, and violent domestic change in the dominant values and myths of society, in its political institutions, social structure, leadership, and government activities and policies. Marx sees revolution as a historical force growing out of class inequities. For marx, over time, the subordinated classes become increasingly unhappy with that political and economic inequality and form of domination.
