Introduction: past independence came along after colonialism, african states adopted one party system c, other political parties could be formed but their power were limited. Justification: foster national unity, economic development, simplicity, avoid ethnic wrangling, multiparty system was foreign to africa. Reality: one-party system is autocratic and dictatorial, suppresses other views, makes presidents for life stay longer than a supposed term, grievances lead to instability. Consequences: combination of greed, grievance, and colonial influence made the military major powers in african political administration from 1960"s 1980"s. 1960 1962 45 majority ruled states in africa, 25 have experienced 52 military coup d" tat: within the same period, there were 56 attempted coups and 102 reported coup plots. 38 out of 45 countries experienced some form of military interruption/intervention. Interruption taking up arms to overthrow a political government elected by the people. Intervention taking up arms to overthrow a political party oppressing the people.
