Massive migration of people from the country side into the cities. Cottage industry way of life at this time and the existence of very few larger cities. Change from small cottage production to large-scale mills and factories within large rapidly growing cities. People had to leave behind their lives in agriculture and adopt a new urban way of life: the new industrial city. No one was there to help control or plan for the rapidly growing cities. Working class lived on land owned by aristocratic families, when lease expired they would own the houses that the working class lived in=motivation was profit only.
