Community as a group of people who share a range of institutions (economic, political, social) Community as a group of people who share familiar social category (race, occupation, lifestyle, res. location) Are spacial or territorial (scarborough community vs. scholar community) Define: a community is a group of individuals who interact with one another and may or may not live in proximity to one another. Is functional (interact at store for physical need - food) & (interact for social need) Example: little italy (de ned with territory & many different interactions) Little italy is a compleat community: people can live,work,socialize without leaving.
