The biggest issue that still lingers around today is inequality; the welfare state was created to solve this problem. By doing so, an effort is made to lessen the gap between the rich and the poor. Democratic government and the capitalist marketplace were the two systems of decision making; the welfare state revolved around the tension between them. However, because of the influential mix of the welfare state, the challenges that have been brought by fascism and communism were suppressed. Due to the influential power of business, a welfare state was developed in canada.
