Government action should not be infringing upon the privacy of its citizens. A distinction between the government being able to have access and individual citizens engaging in consensual recording of that behaviour. At both provincial and federal government, there are privacy commisioners. Have been around for a long time, reasons for why we may not have a high expectation of privacy. There are over 660 cctv cameras strategically located across campus that are monitored/recorded 24 hours a day. As well as being an effective crime deterrent, they also provide video evidence that is used for investigative purposes. Relationship to crime prevention: when there is a high-profile case/crime, they will often look to existing cctv cameras to explain how an incident takes place. This idea of disciplining ourselves because we have the sense we are being watch is a key idea in foucault. In prison, the tower that is watching many people- prison is circular with a tower.
