Internaional migraion happens because of many reasons: income diferences among countries; labour demands and supply in migrant origin and desinaion naions. 3 types of migraion: displacement/refugee, voluntary short-term (like short term visa workers, permanent resetlement. There are many theories of migraion but that doesn"t mean that they are all encompassing and are the answers to why people migrate: lising them separately could also make someone think that they don"t overlap, but they do. Generaion 1: theories of migrant moivaion: ravenstein (1885, 1889): put forward a very early atempt to theorize migraion based on. These were predominantly push-pull theories: issues: originally developed for understanding internal migraion within countries and didn"t take into account the outcomes and border controls, immigraion policies. Generaion 2: poliical economic models: immigraion is a part of larger poliical economic systems. Allows to understand migrant moivaions and migrant controls. Allows us to understand issues of who gains the most from poliical-economic systems: trade + migraion:
