Boas looked and studied the physiological features of thousands of italians living in nyc during this time period. Found that there was a wide amount of variation between individuals and that. Italians could not be generalized by physical characteristics grouped. Compared cranial size of children born to immigrant parents in the us vs. Children born in europe and immigrated to united states (found that there was significant verification between the two groups) Observations lead to conclusions that different characteristics reside in different people although from the same race/ethnic background. Also found that skull size was not valid for classification of people and argued that race does not work in the way that past scientists consisted upon.
