Their study shows that caregiving and caregiving attitudes reflects wider cultural discourses of loyalty and filial piety for south asian and chinese women immigrants. These women migrated to canada in order to care for children. 19 of the women were working for pay: they experienced a time demand and multiple pressure from multiple places. For the south asian women, their acts of caregiving were perceived to show their loyalty. Amongst the chinese women, the caregiving would also respect filial piety: respect for elders: assisting aging relatives. Interviews with 4 jamaican women and government officials: they migrated for different periods of time in order to provide care for others" households. The role of fathering in jamaica contrasts with the perception of fathering in canada. Both studies come to this explanation for why women are perceived to be appropriate carers.
