Struggling to achieve this ideal of masculinity: breadwinner. There was not as many shelters for dads and kids. The mother was in agreement that she couldn"t parent or did not want to. Depiction of the struggles faced by fathers, especially in the place of single fathers. Leap of faith in the pursuit of finding a job that would allow him to provide for his son. He could have turned to community support and support from the state. He chose to do the internship in hopes of finding a job. In many ways, there is this sense of breadwinning and earning ideology associated with masculinity. He was pursuing masculinity in a particular way. Was concerned with how masculine domesticity performed in 1945-1965. Rutherdale was interested in the performance of activities and behaviours in the home and in relation to the family.
