Recognize the various problems faced by aboriginal peoples living on- and off-reserve. Discuss legal labels and their importance in accessing certain rights. Gain insight into the assimilationist policies toward aboriginal peoples in canada. If we ask people living within canada (as a whole); people will say that it is one of the best places to live in canada: good economy, good health care, safe country. However, if you were to look at the aboriginal population and asked them the same question, they wold say that canada is one of the worst places to live in the world (based on how they were treated) On-reserve (31%: location, housing (usually one person to room vs. 2-4 people per room), amenities and structure. Over crowded, standards aren"t met, issue with location of reserves landfills, floods, etc: health, life expectancy significantly lower in comparison to a canadian person.
