PSYC 3520 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Toxoplasmosis, Cervical Cancer, Sexual Differentiation
Document Summary
Tables 3. 1 and 3. 5 will not be on the exam. Research designs: experimental, quasi experimental, case study, single study. Research designs for development: cross sectional, longitudinal, sequential, genetic. Research measures: archival, parental reports, conditioned behaviour, psychophysiological, visual behaviour. Chromosomes are located in the nucleus of the cell. 22 pairs are autosomes (anything but the sex chromosomes) Chromosomes are made of dna and histones (proteins) which the dna is wrapped around. Dna is made of a-t and c-g. Mitosis: cell duplication, where each pair of chromosomes are also duplicated. Sex linked inheritance: found on the sex chromosomes and primarily occur when boys receive a defective x chromosome, and their y chromosome cannot counteract the defective x. Xxy (kleinfelter"s syndrome): affects male physical and cognitive development: boy is born with an extra x, most common (1/500-1000 births, may involve breast development, lack of facial and body hair, potentially infertile and impaired language.
