Valid measuring what is supposed to measure/can be generalized. First study-half women took hormone replacement therapy and half did not. Heart disease decreased in those who took it. Second study-after decades it was tested again, they found those who took it had worst heart condition and possibility of cancer/the results were so conclusive. First study there were younger and in better health and better hearts to begin with- biased samples- problem: did not use random assignment. Second study- used randomization /not biased (equal chances of being in either group) Men had a high fear but after a year dropped down to zero: what is asked, how it is asked. Experimenter expectation should not let the participant know the result of the experiment. Folidimied given to women and had babies with deformities. Because it was given to men, it was not tested on women and was tested on men instead.
