Evolutionary theory argues that some group behaviours may be rooted in physiological processes. Evolutionary psychology suggests this instinct resulted from natural selection allowing for reproductive success and approach vs. avoidance (e. g. , reading someone"s face) allowed for adaption vs. maladaptive behaviours) social motivation. Neural network of emotional pain = very similar pathway as physical pain. Maslow"s hierarchy of needs certain needs have priority over others. Physiological needs like breathing, thirst, and hunger come before psychological needs such as achievement, self-esteem, and the need for recognition. Long-term motivational stage model, lower needs must be met first or higher needs cannot operate. Base = physiological needs (hunger and thirst) you aren"t you when you"re hungry. Tier 2 = safety needs (world = organized and predictable, feel safe/secure/stable)
