2 perspectives = james-lange theory & 2 factor theory. Is a product of our autonomic nerve system. Emotions are the interpretations of our physio responses. When cause of physio response is clear, interpretation doesn"t seem necessary. When cause unclear, there is evidence for 2 factor theory. Physio sensations assoc. w/ emotions; similarity across cultures. Interpretations of those sensations; more evidence for emotional variability across cultures. Darwin facial expressions from other animals seem to parallel those made by humans ie from victorian england. Paul ekman studied similarity in emotional facial expressions around world. Paul ekman"s study = first found much similarity across industrialized countries in recognition of posed facial expressions: next test ppl from a culture w/ little interaction w/ westerners.
