Where you have been sentenced or convicted of sa crime you didn"t commit or are not responsible for. Innocence project & aidwyc groups of lawyers, law students, etc. to represent someone at trial where the client feels like they are innocent or know they did not commit anything. Didn"t get charged/got the wrong person legal innocence, large problem (ex. Acting in self-defence, alibi evidence, provocation, mitigating circumstances that weren"t considered, etc. ) Known exonerations that we have (about 1800), but there is still a dark figure of the cases that still aren"t known. 12-15% of prisoners say they didn"t do at least 1 of the charges they got. Wrongful convictions in the states lead to death sentences, and there is no taking the death sentence back because they are dead. Rape and murder cases involve dna, but that doesn"t apply to all crimes. Rape and murder are very rare cases statistically in crime rates.
