PSYC 3265 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Frontal Lobe, Word Stem, Temporal Lobe
Document Summary
Memory is generally believed to rely upon three major processes: Encoding - transformation of information - from the external to the encoded stored stimulus. Consolidation - process (controversial) that has to do with the transformation of the memory trace from something that is somewhat fragile and susceptible to interference to a more stable memory trace. Retrieval- the process that requires very often that is necessary to retrieve adn access previously stored information - involved in gaining access to the call number and then physically being able to retrieve the book. By this i mean the retrieval of information from an experience long after that experience has passed. Implicit memory - tends to be reflected in one"s performance - may not be consciously accessible. Long-term memory consists of all the different types of memory shown in the previous slide. Explicit (declarative) memory refers to memory that can be declared or described to other people.
