Psychoanalysis after freud: neo-freudians, object relations, and current research. Freud died in 1939; more than a few modern psychologists continue to maintain freud"s legacy in one way or another. Scholars still devote entire careers to the seemingly never ending project of debunking freud with the goal of proving him wrong from the beginning. Most de-emphasize sexual and aggressive instincts, and focus on the interpersonal aspects of life. Modern writers who work to make sense of freud may shade their summaries in various ways that try to maintain the spirit of freudian law. Only a fuzzy boundary separates interpreting versus revising a theory. Many psychologists and historians have taken on this task, with widely varying. It is no small activity to interpret freud"s work results; peter gay, charles brenner. Other thinkers have continued to write about psychoanalysis, attempting to stay true to freud"s theory while extending it.
