PSYC 2130 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Masturbation, Psychopathology, Hans Eysenck
Document Summary
Traits exist and can be examined by psychologists as well as by everybody else in daily life. What is the point of measuring traits: to predict behaviour, to understand behaviour. The only way to find out if these assumptions are correct is to look at the research that examines how traits and behaviour are connected. Doubt whether it is valid to compare people with each other quantitatively on the same trait dimensions. Hope researchers can find groups of people who resemble each other enough, and are different enough from others, that it makes sense to say they belong to the same type . Some of the most influential research in personality has focused on the nature, origins and consequences of single traits of special importance. Self monitoring addresses issues concerning the relationship between ones private inner reality and the external self presented to others.
