Theories of emotion (continuation: zajonc + ledoux. We can have an emotion without cognitive interpretation or appraisal. Emotions can follow 1 of 2 different brain pathways: s cortex (interpretation) amygdala (emotion center) Or: s amygdala (it"s not interpreted, we just automatically react, facial feedback hypothesis. Your own facial expression can trigger your emotion. Expression acts as feedback to your brain, making you feel the emotion you"re expressing with your face. *old cures include: trephining from stone ages; when someone heard voices, it was assumed that the person was possessed. The inmates were often shackled to the wall, immersed in ice cold water, etc. *the idea for all these was to create an unpleasant situation for the body to force the demon out. Accredited with the introduction of the medical model (of looking at psychological disorders) Proposed that people who have psychological orders should actually be treated like humans and that they should be placed in nurturing situations.
