Two-factor theory of emotion: schachter and singer (1962) Placebo more positive mood more negative mood no change no change. Subjects are not informed or misinformed about effects of epinephrine. Given an injection of either epinephrine or placebo. Put in room with confederate who pretended to be feeling euphoric or anxious from the same injection. When given epinephrine most interpreted their internal feelings from the situation. Not so when informed about the true nature of the drug. Argues that there is an autonomic arousal and a cognitive interpretation of that arousal. Becker"s finding regarding marijuana use and various psychological situations (ex. traumatic reactions, depression, organic illnesses such as manic depression) Looked at archival data, the number of people who were hospitalized because of marijuana psychosis. He found that more and more people used marijuana as the decades progressed (his study occured from 1900 to 1960)
