Milgram"s factors that influence obedience: social norms: An implicit contract is established when people promise to participate in an experiment: surveillance: Instead of having the experimenter being over the participants shoulders, give instructions to the teacher, and communicate with the teacher through an intercom. Obedience dropped from 65% to 22: how direct is the experience: Teacher didn"t hear the learner in the other room. Other cases, you could hear the learner screaming, or it was side by side. The more direct the experience, the less likely that you would obey: responsibility: Teacher pull the switch, and an actor who was acting as a co-teacher. They were working together to administer the shock. The teacher was able to blame it on the actor.
