Document Summary
Sensation and perception: distinction between sensation and perception, sensation. Sensation is simply what is happening in the sensory receptors and their activity. The activity is not the same as the experience of the sensory receptors. Receptors are responsible for physical energy and it is transformed into neural impulses. Light = wavelengths hit the retina and transform into sight by the brain. Wavelengths give us the perception of different colours and shades. Cells on the retina will send information to the optic disks which is then sent to the brain for perception. There is no nerve cell in the blind spot though there is movement in the blind spot meaning we have to compensate by turning our heads around b) bottom up vs top down processing. Primarily bottom up processing (we perceive the world from our own senses) The brain is perceiving an image through neural impulses. Sight only happens later when you sense a stimulus.
