Document Summary
Psych 1010 h * lecture notes september 21, 2012. As exam #1 is less than a month away (october 19) now is a great time to begin studying!! Tracks dr. jubis played at the beginning of class session: http://www. youtube. com/watch?v=dpy5vtblhs8, http://www. youtube. com/watch?v=v83jr2ioi8k. Today we finished up with research methods: reviewing experimental and introducing correlational. We also began looking at statistics (descriptive stats, inferential stats will be covered next week). Note: there will be a short answer question on the exam regarding placebo control groups. In the experimental research method, you are manipulating an independent variable (iv) in order to determine its affects on a dependent variable (dv): a confounding variable (cv) is "a variable that interferes with the results. Dv, so that you don"t know whether the affects are caused by the iv, the cv, or both. " ->dv ex: hrs studied--->test grades / hrs studied?--(fatigue?) An experimenter needs to be careful that their groups are evenly distributed.
