Rationality quotient: tells us why smart people do stupid things. Rational thinking is not the same as intelligence. Test construction: standardization: a uniform/standard procedure whereby the original test questions that are given to a large group in order to produce questions that can discriminate the people. And: provide a set of standards or norms by which to judge a given score: 2. 2 major views: iq reflects a general capacity for reasoning, iq is a set of individual abilities and not a general trait. Factor analysis: determines whether questions on a test are related to one another. Nature (genetics)-nurture (environment) controversy: family studies: assess the influence of heredity on iq by examining blood relatives and seeing how similar they are on iq scores. Nieces and nephews share 25% of genes. Higher correlation in iq in closer genetically related people: twin studies: identical twins are compared to fraternal twins, adoptive studies. Concept of reaction range is related to this issue.
