Stages/milestones of language development: receptive language - occurs by ~ 4 months of age. By 7 months of age, they can segment sound into individual words: productive language - occurs ~ 7 months to babbling stage, one word stage - occurs 1 to 2 years of age. Usually using nouns: 2 word stage (telegraphic speech). Involves a verb and a noun, and they can put it in the right order, e. g. , cat sleep. Linguistic determinism (whort) states that language determines how we think.
