Sigmund freud said: the madman is a dreamer awake: the things that you want to do show up in your dreams not your behaviour. What is the nature of consciousness: nature > consciousness or altered, drug addiction > drugs, alcohol, addiction according to freud and other people, another form of consciousness is sleep. Nature: how much control do we have over our behaviour and mind, can we do things at the same time. Altered (as we experience in other contexts, for ex. drinking alcohol and getting drunk) Sleep+dreams: the brain is still doing things when you are sleep. De nition: sum of total of all external events and internal mental processes of which we are aware at any point in time: selectivity is passive and active.
