Locke believes that all men exist in a state of freedom and equality, thus no choice or acion can be constrained by another. Ulimately, equality being the basis of a civil society. Hence, reason being the law of nature in a state of liberty as man should understand and respect all other men"s lives, health, liberty and possessions. Men should essenially treat others, as they want to be treated and seek jusice to right wrongs that were commited. Unless one has commited a crime against another"s life, everyone should seek to preserve humankind. In the state of nature there is no superior force nor government, as a result everyone may implement proporional punishment. All men exist in a state of nature unil they consent to be governed. Self-preservaion for locke is of utmost importance of the law of nature.
