He was born into a rich family. Was a prof in germany lecturing at the exact same time as hagel so no one showed up: got upset about this; quit and lived in the woods as a grouch. We have the same desires as them (food, shelter, sex) but we have conscious thought --> causes us to overthink and increase our suffering. He hates the world; think that everything we do is pointless bc life is full of suffering. Said the world was created as a punishment. Favours creation stories that pursue punishment: christianity: adam and eve --> human error; were in heaven, messed up and were punishment for it (creation was fall) Premise one: god is all powerful, all knowing, all good. Premise two: the world is awful; constant suffering. Therefore, if god is all powerful/knowing and the world is awful, god is awful. Can"t be all three things, if he was there wouldn"t be so much suffering.
